Dr. Shannon Chavez, PsyD, Clinical Psychologist

Modern female sexual medicine is all about incorporating a healthy model of mental and physical health. My therapy model addresses sexual health from a cognitive view and works its way into emotions, body, and spirit within sexuality as women.

Dr. Shannon Chavez is a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Sexologist with a certification in the diagnosis and treatment of sexual disorders. Dr. Chavez holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Chavez began her training in community mental health providing individual, couples and group therapy. She has worked as a counselor for the US Veterans Advance Women’s Program treating issues including military sexual trauma, PTSD, health issues, and chronic mental illness. She has also worked in a residential drug and alcohol facility specializing in the holistic treatment of dual diagnosis and the treatment-resistant addict.

Dr. Chavez completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Institute for Sexual Health in Beverly Hills, California where she worked with individuals and couples dealing with sexual compulsivity and issues regarding sexual health. She provided treatment for intensive outpatient programs as well as launching a program specific to women’s sexual health including tracks for female sexual compulsive behavior and female sexual dysfunctions.

She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) and an active member of the East Valley Psychological Association.

As a clinical sexologist, Dr. Chavez practices a variety of modalities including psychodynamic, attachment-oriented psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral, sex therapy, sex coaching and psychosynthesis. She also provides education and workshops, therapy groups, and lectures related to women’s sexual health and clinical sexology.
